Gem City Roofing Named Runner Up Winner in 2025 "Show Us Our Snow Guards" Contest
After installing more than a half mile of snow retention materials to the metal roof on the Ford Wyoming Center, Gem City Roofing can celebrate. Not only have they made the community center a safer structure, they've also won a Runner Up Prize in the commercial category of the 2025 "Show Us Our Snow Guards" Contest for their efforts. The contest acknowledges exceptional project work done on both residential and commercial projects.
Sliding Snow Problems
"The center's metal roof covering was replaced in 2009," according to Cody Lawson, director of operations with the Ford Wyoming Center. "The decision to invest in a snow retention system was made after an employee was injured by falling snow from the roof.
"Prior to the installation, snow sliding off the roof created a significant hazard, especially in the back lot, where snow would gain momentum, fall over 30 feet, and crash onto the ground below. Since the rails were installed that problem has been eliminated. The snow retention system blocks most snow from sliding off. What snow remains loses speed before reaching the edge, preventing it from reaching ground level. This has greatly improved safety for staff and guests alike."
Enhancing Public Safety
While the Ford Wyoming Center has an impressive 28,000 square feet of space on the interior, there is a whopping 112,716 square feet of space (without the slope factor) on the roof. To determine the best system to install on the 10/12 slope roof, Dino Ruffoni, Owner of Gem City Roofing, relied on our free layout service.
"My company appreciates the quick estimate turnaround times from Rocky Mountain Snow Guards," says Ruffoni, whose company is based in Laramie, Wyoming. "We've relied on their quality performance products for both residential and commercial projects since Rocky Mountain Snow Guards was established.
"For this particular project, it felt good to assist the City of Casper. They get about 70+ inches of snowfall each year. They needed a snow retention system on the Ford Wyoming Center for public safety and to reduce liability. And for us, it feels great that this is an award-winning project. It's appropriate since this is the most snow retention material we've ever installed on a single building!"
